In cultured rat tendon fibroblasts, BPC-157 accelerated explant outgrowth and increased cell migration and survival under oxidative stress. Cell proliferation itself was not directly affected.
In rats with surgically detached Achilles tendon, BPC-157 improved functional, biomechanical and histological healing markers, and reduced the healing impairment caused by corticosteroid co-treatment.
In a rat myotendinous junction defect that does not heal spontaneously, BPC-157 treatment was associated with recovered tissue organisation and reduced inflammatory infiltrate at 28 and 42 days.
A systematic review of 36 studies published 1993-2024 concluded that BPC-157 improved outcomes in animal models of muscle, tendon, ligament and bone injury, while noting it is not FDA approved and is banned in some sports.
